Look for new products that enhance clarity in casual and group conversations.
Digital circuit applications have greatly expanded the sound quality and understanding that comes with these advancements. Micro sized instruments operate either automatically or allow some manual manipulation if desired. > Of the five major manufacturers, Phonak (including Unitron) and Widex appear to be in the forefront of developing CORE technology circuits that are expanding the applications for listening in quiet and in noise. GN Resound (who also distribute their products through the costly Beltone retail chain stores), Oticon, Siemens (manufacturers of Rexton) are also working to address the ever expanding needs of the hearing impaired. Other manufacturers are also striving to develop innovative products, but with varying costs vs. benefits. Regretfully, the cheaper, lead-in products (or mail order devices) often leave the hearing impaired confused and discouraged. Consumers that develop a relationship with an established audiologist, that deals only with the advanced digital products appropriate for their hearing loss, will have greater options for addressing their hearing needs. Did you Know
Hearing loss is more noticeable than hearing aids! The "huh?", "what?" or "Could you repeat that?", or just the general withdrawal from casual conversations. *****
People do not "mumble" or talk too "soft" any more now than then did 20, 30 or 40 years ago when you had normal hearing and could follow the conversation. *****
You are not developing dementia or Alzheimer's but you may appear to be. You are merely missing part of the speech cues that comes with most mild hearing loss.+++++
Help?
The people around you should get your attention 1st. Establish eye contact. Keep eye contact throughout the conversation.
Don't walk away and stay in the same room. If they are talking from another room don't expect to fully understand what they are saying.
Your brain will never tell you when it is taking a guess. Did they say carve or car, That's fine or That's the sign (then you missed the turn dear!).
